Hmm, that should work. I have mpg321 0.2.10 and it works without any
modifications to ecasound conf files.

There is no at ... so either
the page is not uptodate, has packaged some CVS version, or
made changes of their own.

My guess is that your version of mpg321 doesn't understand some
of the params ecasound gives to it. You can try the following
from console:

mpg321 --stereo -r 44100 -b 0 -q -s -k 0 foo.mp3 >/dev/null

.. and ..

mpg321 --stereo -r 44100 -b 0 -q -k 0 foo.mp3

... those should both work.

The mpg321 doesn't seem to mention -b and -r (even though they work
with my 0.2.10 version of mpg321, or at least I don't get any errors). You
could try putting the following to ecasoundrc:

ext-cmd-mp3-input = mpg321 --stereo -q -s -k %o %f
